Cobwebbery Limited - blogging explained

Web Logs or ‘Blogs’ Explained

Web Logs or Blogs for short are just web based diaries - a simple web site which is designed around a single purpose - to maintain a set of diary-style entries, usually one per day or one per week.

Blogs usually have a set of common features...
  • A calendar box on which you can move from month to month to search through the archived articles. Each date with an article associated with it will be identified by a different colour and will usually be a link to the article itself.
  • A list of recent articles, usually within a week or so of the current date
  • A means of searching through the archived articles
  • A means of publishing your articles using RSS news syndication to one or more RSS catalogue sites

Why Blog?

There are several reasons why you would want to blog - the most likely is that you feel that you have something to say, and you want to share it with the world. Another reason might be to promote your web site in the major search engines. It’s an established fact that web sites which have data or information that changes regularly are deemed to be of more interest and therefore rate highly in the major search engines like Google. If you have the dedication and committment to maintain a blog on a weekly or daily basis, and publish it to an RSS directory, then it’s fairly certain that you will get a good search engine rating fairly quickly. All you have to remember is to included hyperlink references to your web site and you should see blogging work for you.

Which Blog?

Cobwebbery can help you set up a blog, either under your own domain name or advise on setting up a blog using an established existing blogging web site. Either way is good - it’s just down to choice whether you want to use you own domain name like www.mybusiness.co.uk/blog/ or something like www.blogger.com/mybusiness/
